The Lost World: Challenger, Malone and Veronica are exploring ruins on a riverbank, when a man stumbles out of the jungle in a hail of deadly arrows. Malone drags the wounded man to safety. He dies in their arms, but not before issuing a cryptic message to find a man named Pierson Rice. In the search for Rice, we learn more about Roxton's past and discover why Rice and Roxton, once friends, now hate each other.
