In 1960, a six-year-old African-American girl named Ruby Bridges helped to integrate the all-white schools of New Orleans. When she is chosen to be the first African-American to integrate her local elementary school, she is subjected to the true ugliness of racism for the first time. But guided by the love of her parents, Ruby's heroic struggle for a better education becomes a lesson for us all.
