Then as the film went on I was surprised, little gore, little cussing, more like a good suspense. The story telling was good, no matter what some might say, I thought it was a good story. This girl seemed to never really go further than the edge, making threats, hurting people, but never to the point of murder. That is what I saw and to me that build up is what is lacking in movies today. They want to show everything from the past to the present and show blood and gore and sex. It was refreshing to see an old style movie with new actors. By the end of the movie it was sit on the edge of my seat and yell at the screen, \$

No Strings Attached

$Watch No Strings Attached 0123movies-A guy and girl try to keep their relationship strictly physical, but it\'s not long before they learn that they want something more. What is most fascinating about this movie is that it\'s a raunchy rom-com from the female perspective. Knowing that the film was written by a woman prior to my viewing it made the nuances jump out to me. It\'s those nuances and that perspective that make the film enjoyable. No one scene or moment merits more then a minor chuckle but the characters themselves expand and grow as the story unfolds. It\'s hard to care about the leads at first because there\'s no set up or real establishment of character. Then, they kind of grow on you even though neither really rang true for me in any real world sense. Natalie Portman is great as many would expect but Ashton Kutcher did a fine job as well. I\'ve seen others criticizing his performance but I think that\'s based on a pre-determined hatred of him rather than on his work. The supporting characters were VERY weak and useless save for the father character played by the wonderful Kevin Kline. Overall, better than I was expecting it to be.$

The Way Back (2010)

$Watch The Way Back 0123movies-This is a film for people who appreciate epic landscapes and survivor stories. It has some engaging characters but not brilliant dialogue or complicated characters. Mostly, it is a visual film, displaying the vulnerability of a few people in a harsh, vast, beautiful landscape. They must depend on each other, and they develop an intimacy based on their shared struggle rather than on deep conversations and emotional revelations, or at least, not until a young girl joins them. Weir seems to be commenting on the yin yang of masculinity/femininity at times in this film. I also liked the subtle underlying commentary on the brutal oppression of the Soviet regime under Stalin. All of the actors were good; Farrell adds a touch of humor, Sturgess portrays anguish well, and Harris is a good tough old guy--his usual persona. By the way, I tried to review this film on The New York Times website but apparently I\'ve been banned there, for criticizing Manohla Dargis once too often I suppose. In her bizarre review, she complains that Farrell is too good-looking to be a Russian gangster. What this assessment is based on I can\'t imagine, doubt Dargis hangs with Russian gangsters.$
